United Wa State Party
The United Wa State Party ((ビルマ語:ဝပြည် သွေးစည်း ညီညွတ်ရေး ပါတီ); abbreviated UWSP) is the political wing of United Wa State Army (UWSA). It was founded in 1989 with members of Wa National Council (WNC), non-communist Wa group, and former members of Burma Communist Party (CPB).〔(Chiangrai Times )〕
==History==
The first chairman of UWSP is Zhao Nyi-Lai. He was a former military leader of the Sao Hin Saopha who joined the Communist Party of Burma (CPB) in 1969. He was elected as alternate member of CPB central committee in 1985. When UWSP was founded in 1989, he became the chairman.
In 1995, Zhao Nyi-Lai suffered a stroke and Bao Youxiang became the new chairman. Zhao Ni-Lai remains as Secretary General of party. In 2005, Bao Youxiang health deteriorated and Bao Youyi, elder brother of Bao Youxiang, took over the day-to-day activities of UWSP/UWSA.〔(Jane's )〕 Wei Xuegang was appointed as Central Committee Member in 1996.〔(Mizzima )〕 He is wanted for narcotic trafficking by the authorities in the United States.〔(The Wa State, Page 3 last paragraph )〕
